Certainly,
everyone feels a moral obligation to pay their fair share of the tax burden in
exchange for the benefits bestowed upon us as residents of the United States of
America. However, few of us want to pay more than our fair share. The
government has set up the "rules" for taxation of income. As citizens, we all
have a "right" to play within those rules to minimize the tax owed to the
government. There is a significant distinction between tax minimization and tax
fraud.

Poor Families in Illinois
Are Hit Harder by the Income Tax Than Those in Other States
JCPR:
Policy Briefs - Vol.2; No. 9
A fundamental problem in today's
post-welfare-reform era is one of poverty while working. Fourth-fifths of poor
families in Illinois are working. Earnings of full-time, minimum wage workers
in Illinois now fall $3,000 below the federal poverty line for a family of
three.1 These low wages are one reason state policymakers have become
interested in the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) as a supplement to low-income
workers.

The Fair Tax Book: Saying Goodbye to the Income Tax and
the IRS
In the face of the outlandish
American tax burden, talk-radio firebrand Neal Boortz and Congressman John
Linder are leading the charge to phase out our current, unfair system and enact
the FairTax Plan, replacing the federal income tax and withholding system with
a simple 23 percent retail sales tax on new goods and services. This dramatic
revision of the current system, which would eliminate the reviled IRS, has
already caught fire in the American heartland, with more than six hundred
thousand taxpayers signing on in support of the plan.
