Beware of the Tax Scams

Beware of bogus emails claiming to be from the IRS, “informing” you that you have an additional refund coming, if you’ll “simply confirm” some personal identity data - which is how they steal your identity.

Here’s a new one…

This one claims to be the IRS “doing a customer satisfaction survey.” The email promises, if you will just answer the survey questions, the IRS will credit $80 to your account. All you have to do is give them your name, phone number and bank account or credit card number - to which they claim they’ll issue your $80 credit.

And, it gets even worse…

Remember the part about getting your phone number?

They call you to “confirm your information,” at which time they try to pry even more personal data from you, so they can run up your credit card or drain your bank account.

It’s a scam, so don’t fall for it. The IRS will NEVER communicate with taxpayers by email.
